This collection consists of correspondence to and from Rep. Stanley Powell, state representative from the 89th District (counties of Barry, ionia, and Kent). Powell served on a variety of committees, including agriculture (1965, 1966), city corporations, towns and counties, village incorporations (1966), towns and counties (1967), revision/amendments of the constitution, military and veteran's affairs (1968). The correspondence covers a variety of topics and covers the years 1965-1967. The collection has been retained in order as sent (alphabetically by correspondent).

Stanley M. Powell was born July 7, 1898 in Ionia, Mich. He received a B.S. in agriculture from the Michigan Agriculture College in 1920. He was elected to the state legislature in 1930, and lost in 1932 with the New Deal landslide. He worked at the Michigan Farm Bureau as its legislative council and director of public affairs, and was also active in the Michigan State Grange, 1932-1966.
